Bank of Stanly Honors 2008-2009 Teacher of the Year
and Outstanding
Business
Tuesday, May 12th 2009 - Albemarle, NC - Bank of Stanly honored Stanly County’s 2008-2009 Teacher of the Year Donna Jones recently at the company’s Annual Meeting of Shareholders. Mrs. Jones teaches Reading and Language Arts at South Stanly Middle School.
“Teachers have a special mission of helping mold and encourage our children to be what they can be, to dream big dreams and realize those dreams,” said Jerry Long, Bank of Stanly’s Board of Directors’ Chair, who recognized Mrs. Jones.
Donna chose teaching as a profession after encouragement from her father when she was in college. From her first classroom experience with a “problem child” and a deaf child, she would realize that these two children would shape the rest of her teaching career. Teaching is in her blood and as she claims “almost to the point of being obsessive.” Her classroom is currently the model of how Middle School English classrooms should look, housing 2,500 to 3,000 books for children to read.
